Libya More than 48,000 Africans return home
The African Union (AU) Commissioner for Social Affairs, Amira El Fadil, said the AU had organized the repatriation of 48,000 African migrants stranded in conflict-ridden Libya.
« The AU has recently managed, in collaboration with the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Libyan government, the return of 48,000 African migrants to their countries of origin, » El Fadil said on Sunday evening on the sidelines of the 33rd Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
Nearly 5,000 other African refugees formerly living in Libya are currently being resettled in third destination countries, including Rwanda, in coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), she said.
