Mozambique: Ukraine plans to import liquefied gas to diversify its supplies
On March 23, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is exploring the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Mozambique to offset the sharp decline in its gas production following Russian attacks on its infrastructure. Mozambique, a major gas producer, has restarted its Mozambique LNG project with a planned capacity of 13 million tons of LNG per year. The initiative is part of Kyiv’s energy diversification strategy, which already includes LNG imports from the United States via Europe.
