Hospitality: 123,846 rooms in Africa’s pipeline, a record, Egypt leads 

Africa’s hotel sector reaches a record in 2026 with 123,846 rooms across 675 hotels, according to “2026 Hotel Chain Development Pipelines in Africa” by W Hospitality Group. Based on an average cost of about $200,000 per room (Banque mondiale reference), the pipeline equals roughly $24.8bn. Egypt leads (45,984 rooms), followed by Morocco (10,606). Tunisia (3,907 rooms, 7th) stands out with the largest average size (279 rooms). East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania) records the highest construction rates, above 75%.
