Niger : World Bank approves $250 million to support financial sector and SMEs

The World Bank approved a $250 million grant from the International Development Association (IDA) on March 12, 2026, to strengthen Niger’s financial sector and improve access to credit for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The Support to the Financial Sector and Access to MSME Finance in Niger project aims to restore bank liquidity, expand lending to viable businesses and create or maintain an estimated 58,000 jobs, according to the Bank. It includes risk‑sharing instruments and technical assistance to broaden sustainable finance and enhance inclusion in a challenging economic environment.
