Kenya : planned 1,200 MW gas-fired power plant to strengthen electricity supply

Kenya plans to develop a 1,200-megawatt gas-fired power plant along its Indian Ocean coast to boost electricity generation as demand rises with economic growth. The project forms part of the government’s strategy to diversify energy sources and reinforce grid reliability. According to official data from the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) and the Ministry of Energy, the country currently has about 1,726 MW of installed generation capacity, most of it from renewable sources such as geothermal, hydro and wind. The future gas facility is expected to support industrial expansion and ensure a more stable electricity supply.
