Uganda : Yoweri Museveni elected chair of East African Community Heads of State Summit

Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was elected chair of the East African Community Heads of State Summit during the 25th ordinary summit held on March 9, 2026 in Arusha, Tanzania, according to the organization’s official statement. He succeeds Kenyan President William Ruto under the bloc’s rotating annual leadership system. Established in 2000, the EAC now brings together eight member states and aims to deepen regional integration, strengthen the common market and promote economic cooperation across East Africa.
