Morocco : $675M for Africa’s largest tyre factory

Construction of Africa’s largest tyre manufacturing complex officially began on January 23, 2026, in the Betoya industrial acceleration zone in Driouch Province, Morocco, by Chinese group Shandong Yongsheng Rubber through its subsidiary Goldensun Tire Morocco. The project represents an investment of about 6.7 billion dirhams (≈$675 million). The 52‑hectare facility, strategically located near the Nador West Med Port, is planned to have an annual capacity of 18 million tyres, generating 1,737 direct jobs plus hundreds of indirect jobs during construction and operation. It will include research and development units to support technology transfer and industrial innovation, enhancing Morocco’s integration into global value chains. The plant is expected to start operations in early 2027.
