Algeria has earmarked around DZD 2,400 billion, equivalent to nearly $18bn, to modernise and expand its railway network, according to Nabil Boubaya, Central Director at the National Agency for Railway Investment Studies and Oversight. The national programme covers 5,738 km of rail lines and builds on an expansion of more than 1,700 km achieved over the past six years.
