Mauritania : $275 Million Investment to Modernize Key Railway Corridor

On November 28, 2025, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) signed a joint financing agreement of $275 million to modernize Mauritania’s main railway corridor, linking the mining hub of Zouerat to Nouadhibou port. The EIB contributes $125 million, while the AfDB adds $150 million. The project will rehabilitate the existing rail line, build new tracks, and boost the country’s competitiveness. It aligns with the EU’s « Global Gateway » strategy.
