Nigeria : government drops planned 15% import duty on fuel products

Nigeria has dropped its plan to introduce a 15% ad valorem import duty on petrol and diesel, the NMDPRA announced this week. The tariff, previously approved by President Bola Tinubu and scheduled for December 2025, aimed to boost non-oil revenues and support new refining capacity, including the Dangote refinery. Fuel traders warned it could tighten imports and heighten dependence on a single supplier. The regulator prioritised supply stability, assured consumers of sufficient stocks and urged against panic buying.
