Ethiopia : launch of trade under AfCFTA

On 9 October 2025, Ethiopia officially began trading under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), seven years after signing the agreement in Kigali in 2018. Over 40 exporters registered, initially targeting South Africa and Kenya. Agricultural products and textiles were included. Ethiopia had ratified eight AfCFTA protocols and placed 90% of goods under liberalization. Selected services, such as telecommunications, were set for gradual liberalization.
