East African Community (EAC) leaders announced a regional satellite project, collectively owned by member states. The satellite, scheduled for launch by 2027 through a public-private partnership, aims to provide affordable, reliable Internet, reduce dependence on foreign infrastructure, enhance telemedicine, e-learning, and support cross-border trade. The plan also includes training regional experts to operate and maintain the satellite.
