7th Edition of the International Caricature Festival in Africa (FICA) : an artistic commitment to food security

Until December 15th in Agadir, the 7th edition of the International Caricature Festival in Africa (FICA) and the International Caricature Contest Morocco will bring together over 400 caricaturists, including 30 Moroccans, to address the theme "Food Security: The World Hunger for Bold Resolutions." An event where art engages with global issues.

From December 12 to 15, Agadir will transform into a global hub for caricature with the 7th edition of the International Caricature Festival in Africa (FICA) and the International Caricature Contest Morocco. Organized under the auspices of the Atlas Caricature Association (AAC) and the weekly Le Canard Libéré, this event highlights caricature as a tool for engagement and reflection on major contemporary causes, especially food security.

Over 411 caricaturists from all over the world

Over 411 caricaturists from around the world, including 30 talented Moroccan artists, will participate in this edition, showcasing more than 1,200 works that will challenge, disturb, and inspire visitors. The focus is on the central theme of food security, with caricatures combining humor, satire, and critical reflection on this major challenge.

The festival offers a permanent exhibition of caricatures addressing the issues of food security, while also paying tribute to the Moroccan caricaturist Nourdine Bennani for his exceptional contribution to national caricature. This moment will also be an opportunity to discover an engaged art that does not hesitate to shake up consciences.

The event is not limited to an exhibition. It also includes workshops for young talents, notably two workshops led by experienced caricaturists in collaboration with children from the Souss-Massa region. These workshops aim to raise awareness among young people about caricature and its power to provoke reflection.

In parallel, a conference-debate on the theme « Caricature and Food Security » will bring together experts, artists, and the public to discuss the impact of art on raising awareness of global challenges.

FICA aims to be a true crossroads of exchange. In partnership with the University Culture and Pedagogical Arts Festival (FUCAP) of Ibnou Zohr University of Agadir, this event will also highlight the importance of visual arts in education and raising awareness about contemporary challenges, particularly through the theme « Visual Arts and Education: Experiences and Horizons. »

This 7th edition of FICA goes beyond being just an artistic festival, becoming a platform for reflection where caricature art becomes a powerful advocacy tool for urgent global resolutions, such as food security.
